Lego Duplo-Land

Tornado Dad took Tornado Boy to the park today. I took that opportunity to create a new storage area for our Duplo blocks. Having them all scattered all over the floor was just not working for me. I know that it won’t stay quite this neat, but for now it’s really nice to have them sorted so that we can easily find the pieces that we want to build with. I like that they’re still out and available, and yet still contained.

Here’s the map of how they’re organized:

You have no idea how much we have. They are in two big plastic bins, and it’s just Duplo. Lego takes another 2. It’s a bit of a mess, but Anna seems to know where to find things when she feels like building with Lego.

Our Legos and Duplo blocks are kept in separate clear-sided bins when not in use. I try to rotate toys (I store some in the attic spaces and put new/old ones out) on a regular basis so the kids have more appreciation for what is out and make less of a mess (I have six kids). If everything is out, it tends to all get taken out…and left out…and need picking up. Ugh.

My 12 still likes his Legos and just recently got them out again. He has his pieces organized in a bin on wheels I bought him at a thrift store that has four separate colored compartments, plus uses a huge plastic coffee “tin” for all the cool weapons and heads/bodies. My dad built the boys (my oldest is 19 and currently too cool for Legos…I am sure he will come around!) a Lego table about five feet by three feet years ago. It has four-inch sides so the Legos don’t fall off. The boys took the legs off of it and placed it on wheels instead last year (actually, they are using one of those rolling boards for sliding under a car to set the table on), and it stores under one of their beds so they can leave long-term projects assembled, yet still pick up. My son can pull it out and set it on his bed when friends come over.

Duplos are also kept in bins and rotated. They have a storage table my folks bought one Christmas and when they are out, all the pieces store under the play boards. It works well for the young ones. My four youngest are too young to appreciate organization of any sort. Organizing for us is getting them all back in the table and off the floor!

Your system looks nice. Good luck with it!

We have our Lego & Duplo in 2 GoGoSac which are a great play mat that converts into a toy storage solution they are great for Lego storage and it makes cleaning up after playtime is finished a breeze as all the toys are contained on the playmat. Its just a 1 step clean-up and all the Lego mess is away in the GoGoSac toy storage sack On the website they also give you tips for teaching your to play on the GoGoSac, which are great and eeasy & fun for the kids & for you ad clean-up. If you have kids who just love there lego / duplo then try a GoGoSac as they will love and so will you.

I am just trying to figure this out. I like the look of the same blocks stacked together. Our budget has no “Lego Organizer” line in it currently so I will need to use what I have (lots of plastic boxes, if I can find the lids). I like how you have organized and stacked. I am making mental notes. :)
